George Shaeffer founded our company in 1979 when Vail was just taking off. Our company grew alongside the community, establishing relationships with local architects, building a reputation for excellence in home construction and adding to a portfolio of awe-inspiring residences throughout the Vail Valley and Colorado. Today, the company that George built is led by David Hyde. Marking our 42nd year in business, we introduced a new name: Shaeffer Hyde Construction. As a LEED-accredited professional, Hyde continues to move the company forward, helping design teams and clients navigate sustainable design and construction practices while embracing current technology that streamlines cost modeling and catalogs the details of every project.

Preconstruction
The building process starts by understanding your vision and how you plan to use your home. By working closely with the design teams and clients throughout the design and construction phases of the project, the Preconstruction Department lays the foundation for success by establishing an accurate budget, developing a detailed schedule, as well as providing the team with recommendations necessary to make important decisions in a timely manner.
Our Preconstruction Department provides comprehensive preconstruction services that include:
- Accurate conceptual budgets developed from our Historical Cost Database
- Detailed cost estimating with trade contractor input
- Building systems evaluation
- Site evaluation
- Value engineering
- Competitive bidding to subcontractors

Construction Services
Our Construction Services Group gets involved early, adding their expertise and insights to the project cost models and building schedule before the first piece of dirt is turned. Each home has both a project manager and site superintendant who execute the design team’s vision, manage the day-to-day staging, schedule and trade team, and facilitate decisions about finishing details.
By appropriately valuing trade contractor services, Shaeffer Hyde Construction has forged strong relationships within the trade community; these relationships help us deliver premium homes in a timely fashion.
Our Construction Services Group provides the following services:
- On-site supervision
- Quality control
- Safety management
- Detail and material selection recommendations
- Detailed meeting minutes
- Submittal and RFI coordination
- Weekly reports & photo updates e-mailed weekly

Post-Construction
Custom homes are built on relationships. When we turn over the keys to your property, we remain committed to helping you keep it in pristine condition.
Our Home Care Team can survey your home’s performance each season, providing a wide range of services – everything from replacing a light bulb to large scale repairs and maintenance.
The Renovations Department is available to manage scoping and building remodels and additions. In the event that one of our homes is sold, we will extend our Home Care and Renovations services to the new homeowner, thus ensuring the home performs as designed well into the future.
